Is State Issued Morenocard About To Replace Intl Cards?

I have noticed they are now handing out government propaganda newspapers to all passengers flying on domestic Aerolineas Argentina... All articles were shouting how great the government was, how good the economy is, how great Chavez was, how good the Chinese think the Moreno card will be !! To make the guys read it they even plastered a nice lady in a bikini on the front page with a football/Messi story mixed in.

In a bikini?..how prudish in this century...they're dancing naked on Bailando as standard...! Typical govt. behind the times... :(

Ha, I'm not complaining... Just felt the whole newspaper thing was way too forced and in your face for an airline to be dealing with -it is run by the government so I shouldn't expect anything less.

Ok, could have been worse, they replace store branded cards and run alongside normal cc cards, i.e. are not exclusive use.

Launched on April fools days! Am convinced this has been developed since last year.

Would agree with that. Anyone know if store branded cards are common - I've never seen/used one.

(Wonder if the gov't will track the data and discover that after all, 6 pesos a day isn't that realistic :p )

The Moreno Card will allow the government to subsidize the lower income sectors by returning the IVA or giving credits..? The Moreno card will give the opportunity to the "marginal" people to Own a credit card? Now CC are only reserved to the well off that have bank accounts, with all the benefits of discounts and no interest payments in 12 months?
Will I be able to get a Moreno Card ? :D

My Argentine husband told me last night that the reason behind the govt card is to tax supermarket purchases in order to boost govt income and continue with the present economic model. Apparently, supermarkets pay a 3% charge on purchases to the credit card companies and with the govt card, this will be reduced to 1%. So effectively, the govt will get 1% of the price of all purchases made on this card and the supermarkets will go for it because they, too, will pay less than usual. Given that supermarkets that accept the card will not be able to accept other cards, this could be a phenomenal amount of money.
He also said that it could also be a way for the govt to "encourage" people to have an account at Banco Nacion (who will be operating the card). As this will probably be the only way to obtain one (just like now, you can only get a Citi credit card or Santander card if you hold an account in those respective banks). It could also be a way of obtaining better access to peoples salaries etc for "investment" purposes.
On a side note, has anyone else noticed that banks have appeared to have done away with the discount offers in shopping malls/clothes shops? I went to use my "Miercoles mujer" 25% discount the other day in Abasto and it exists no more...neither does the Thursday Citi bank discounts...
