Ok, I See What You Mean About Subsidies

My roommate and I pay about $30-$40 ARS a month for power. Is that normal?

It depends on what part of the city you live in. Many neighborhoods receive subsidies, but if I'm not mistaken, I think Belgrano, Belgrano R, Barrio Parque and Recoleta don't. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Recoleta no subsidio fxxxxk bill went to $200 arg from $50 pesos earlier

The last time I paid my electric bill someone in line told me it was the last bill for subsidies for everyone, regardless of the level usage.

Subsidies that benefit the Rich are counterproductive. Subsidies should only be for the Poor.

And when the government pays too much for the poors' subsidies and can't continue to do so, it really screws with them when they have to pay the real price.

I'd rather see people lifted out of poverty, at least so far as they can afford to pay for shelter, food/water, medical and power.

Also, I have to say at least one thing about both rich and poor getting the subsidies - at least that way they don't have to figure out what exactly "rich" and "poor" means (at least for specific subsidies), and often defining such levels encourages people close to that level to figure out a way to get within that level instead of getting farther away from it, particularly here.

But I agree subsidies that benefit the rich are counterproductive. I believe the same thing of the poor - but I don't believe there should BE a poor class if things are managed correctly. Keeping people poor, though, makes them dependent on those who are doing the "keeping."

I didn't mean to imply that I was in favor of subsidies - just that subsidies that benefit the rich are particularly heinous.

For example many countries subsidize petrol. So the poor guy that only has a bicycle is subsidizing the rich tycoon's limousine.

And then society is subsidizing people to pollute more - and the rich consume more - so power subsidies are helping to destroy the environment.

I think that's to compensate for the power outages in December and January. Anyone, regardless of their income level, that suffered power outages should receive compensation.

There weren't any power outages where I live in December or January. The woman in line indicated that subsidies were a thing of the past for everyone.
