Who could travel? Would tourists be included?
In the event that regular long-distance transport services are resumed, in a first stage only people who have valid permits to travel could travel. For example, essential workers.
"The return of regular services is not directly related to tourism, although it is a step in that sense. It will serve as an example to test the system and protocols, but it is not intended for tourism at first" Government sources detailed.
Would the resumption of flights imply an opening of the borders?
Not necessarily. Making the border closure more flexible is an independent decision that the Argentine government must make and it does not solve the limitations imposed by other countries either.
There are many examples that show that the authorization of flights does not imply a relaxation of migration issues. For example, currently there are special flights from Argentina to Europe, yet Argentines who have neither residence in Europe nor dual citizenship cannot travel. In the same way, Brazil does not have restrictions on air transport, and yet Brazilians are prohibited from entering not only Argentina but also a long list of countries, including the United States.
In addition, currently only Argentines or residents of the country are allowed to enter Argentina and that will not change due to the fact that regular services are resumed, but will require another decision from the Government, which may or may not be simultaneous.
