Spending A Year In Argentina

Hi All,

I am an Indian. I got an offer from BA, Argentina. I need to sell off my entire household to live there. I am married and my wife needs to leave her job to go with me.

My employer is giving:

1. a fully furnished apartment in Palermo for 2 years (electronics+furniture).

2. Health insurance for me and my wife

===

Lets assume that I will pay:

a) electricity
B) internet
c) cable
d) Cell phone connection
e) ration
f) I need to use the transport to visit Argentina (like a tourist. Any estimates for this: radio taxi, AC buses, etc?

Any detailed monthly estimates for the above items in Pesos?

How much the monthly Net Salary (in hand) should i ask for(giving details on the above items and giving the fact me and my wife will be going and my wife will not be working)?

Last question: which type of VISA should I ask for my employer to give me?

You need a work visa.
At least $20000 pesos to make it worth your while. You won´t save much, but you will live nicely on that.

You should probably also read up on appropriate internet posting. Hijacking another person's post is severely frowned upon. Best next time to post a separate thread with your question. :)

Best of luck Tegan! I'm argentinian, can help you with your Spanish, sightseeing or even if there's something you think I could help with while you're here, let me know! I'm always looking for new friends :)

Seriously? Maybe I've gotten cynical living in BA but I think there are three possibilities here. 1) You run an escort service and that's not your real picture. 2) You are running a scam and that's definitely not your real picture. 3) You are the most friendly, welcoming Argentine with 2 posts on an expat site that I've ever met in 8 years. It's got to be one of the three!

I agree it's cynical, but it's strange to see an Argy (ESPECIALLY if they are from the city of BA and still live close to friends and family) to say "I'm always looking for new friends". It could be an earnest, but a lesson I've learned here is that porteños are usually pretty satisfied with the friends they already have, and don't go online searching for new ones. We could be wrong about this one, just my 2 cents!!

She runs a bilingual school for kids.

Some people here are really negative, cynical.

That was my first thought when I saw that post from minibilinguals. Maybe I've just lived here too long.

and BA is definitely the best city in the world to live in from a social or cultural point of view.

No it isn't. In fact, it's one of the least culturally diverse cities I've been to. No argument that there is a lot of stuff to do, but like the food, there isn't a lot of diversity. You may have had an office in Paris, but it doesn't sound like you took advantage of the city very much. If there are 4 or 5 interesting things to do in BsAs, there are 40 or 50 in Paris. I don't know enough of London to have an opinion. In San Francisco, which is a much smaller city, there is probably as much to do as here, but the diversity is much greater.

It's all relative. If you like Tango and empanadas, then this is the place for you.
