thanks for the replies guys... the guy at WU (1300 block of Guemes) said that the law only restricted money sent to US and Italy... very strange...

elclandestino- I'm interested in how you send money to Australia.. that is my other... actually morepreferable option...but when I asked about it here they said that they don't sendcash to Australia from Argentina...?

Thanks for the ideas guys!

I was paid from Australia. Figuring out how to send it to AUS too

I've never used this site, but it was mentioned here by others a long time ago. Perhaps it is still a viable alternative to WU ? ... https://www.xoom.com/sendmoneynow/argentina

anyone using them? They claim pickups at banks and even xfer deposits to local USD accounts as well, but with the new law I have my doubts.

Their website is not up to date and service in Argentina really sloppy

AFAIK there is no legal at least not straightforward way to get dead presidents bank notes in your hands in Argentinaa

Western Union doesn't pay out USD as of more than a year. You get paid in pesos and the rate is a bit lower than regular

Not true. My partner does freelance work for US companies. As of two weeks ago he was still picking up greenbacks at our WU office in Belgrano. The wires are always initiated in the US in USD and he picks them up in USD.

But not all offices have always had dollars. And now who the heck knows, I am sure it won't be possible. Will be interesting to see when he goes to collect next week. But he's above board and pays his taxes, so he'll get paid...

Probably I was out of luck and they had no Dollars. Was picking up from various branches around Palermo, Congreso and Downtown

I'm working pretty much en negro ;)

My partner just visited the WU office on La Pampa in Belgrano to collect a wire transfer from one of his clients in the US. He collected the cash in dollars as usual. Went to our local Supermercado Chino and exchanged some of them at the rate of 4.70 (not fabulous, but better than the official) and then deposited his pesos into his bank account.

So yes, its all still working as it was before...

Just wanted to report to you all that I went to a Western Union today to send some cash to a friend in Europe. The guy told me that transfers to Europe have been suspended for 5 months now, so it's not just Italy. He mentioned an option about the receiving end being a bank account, but this wasn't possible for me.

Last month they told me in Banco Piano, that WU only accepts transfers that qualify as "family help" now. 3 thousand dollars per month maximum, and only if last name of the recipient is the same as yours.

The plot thickens.
I am surprised that the informal rate has not increased that much. In fact, its declined since Nov. I have to believe 6 by the end of 2012.

Buy Paypal here from people that have PP balances and cannot withdraw > withdraw US dollars in the US.
