tipping?

10% in restaurants unless the service is bad. Cabs I usually round up to the next peso.

I would ask waiters what they make on a average month.

That is definitly not 10% of the turn-over or every professional would want to be a waiter

You get career waiters here. If you work at a good restaurant, with people who tip well as standard, you can earn good money. Similar story all over the world.

Yes, 2500-3000 nett. I guess we have a different definition of good money

I've been told that waiter jobs at good restaurants and bars are passed on to relatives and friends, or bought for hard cash. Waiter jobs at casino bars are the most coveted, as winners tip lavishly.

Erm... ok. Do you have a point to make? Not really sure what you're trying to say.

As a local I can tell most argentineans tip.

On my trips around the world I observed many people do not tip at all. In most cases the tip is added to your bill leaving you without the opportunity to punish or reward the waiter.

Something that disturbed me in Palermo, was that many european tourists, after chewing a whole banquet would leave a couple coins on the table. When I traveled to Europe many locals felt odd about me tipping so much the local waiters (10% at most). I think tipping is not much of a custom.

Contrary to the obvious many locals from Recoleta won't tip more than the ones of Constitución. The recoletos do not get rich by tipping.

Okey doke then. Did you used to post here as blahblah by any chance?

I went to a restaurant in Palermo one time with some friends and all together we spent over 250 pesos. When the check came it said that a 15% tip was included in the price and we all had to pay 5 pesos extra for the waitress that we saw 3 time during the 4 hours we were there. Customer service sucks in BA big time.
