Exactly - if you get taken for a ride on a longer route they will refund you... Goodluck getting a refund for a taxi driver giving you fake money, fucking with the meter or taking you on a long route... I stayed in Recoleta and asked the hotel to get me a taxi to Aeroparque - taxi rocks up and I ask the fare - he goes 500 pesos... I get pissed because its obvious he is trying to rip me off so I tell him this fact and he goes ohhh ok I will use the meter.. Total trip = 190 pesos... These pieces of shit are the reason why Uber exists. They prey on tourists and have no issues ripping them off if they don't know better.

Personally, a large part of my concern is whether taxis or Uber is better at policing themselves. (Caveat: I think any business should obey tax laws and any other laws.)

Remember if there are any issues with drivers or taking longer route report it to Uber and they will look after you.

Yep - take away a guys job and throw him in jail for trying to work. Well done - corruption on show again. Tell me again - what % of taxi drivers are paying their tax obligations in full? The same drivers who have no issue ripping people off are surely going to be paying their taxes right?

I will say it again - when you get a chance use Uber here.. If enough people sign up and use it then eventually there will be no choice but for it to become allowed - tell all your friends and associates.
