What is the food you miss most from "home?"

I miss Mexican food the most. Sometimes it's almost unbearable.
Have you found the Fabrica del Taco in Villa Urquiza? It’s across the road from Verraka, which is also a good address to keep in mind, with reasonably priced cocktails and quite ok pizza.

I won’t oversell Fabrica del Taco, but you will get corn tortillas there and you can see the meat and chicken being grilled. There’s a hottish sauce you can ask for (not native hot, of course), and cheap and cheerful frozen Margaritas. The area gets very busy around the weekends.

Good crisps. I’ve all but given up on crisps here. When my parents visited last year with marmite walkers and pickled onion monster munch my addiction reawakened

Talk about an old thread...are any of the original posters still around? I wonder what the average expat stay is down here....5-10 years?

@Redpossum Mexican food is starting to gain some traction down here, I'm surprised there isn't an authentic joint in BA, you know...for $10 USD a taco *eyeroll*

I can relate. For years, I had a pattern any time I spent more than a couple of weeks in BA - first meal back in the states was Tex-Mex, whether breakfast, lunch, or dinner...sometimes, straight from the airport.

PS: At least two of the posters to this thread, a married couple, have died.
I'm not surprised. I often feel like I could die if I don't get some tacos and salsa.

When I first came here, there were several restaurants in my area claiming to be authentic Mexican. They weren't. It seemed to be beyond them to copy Mexican simple recipes. One served ketchup en lieu of salsa

Every few years we try Lupita (Mexican) in CABA. I'm more Mexican than they are.

If we land in NYC early in the morning we immediately head for a diner for bacon and egg on english muffin. If lunch time it's Greek Salad with grilled chicken. Later in the day it's sushi without cream cheese, or garlic bread or grilled lobster ....I'm gonna stop here, I can't take it anymore.

Was it Anthony Bourdain who wept on seeing a vegetable when he returned home in NY after a trip to BA?

Been to Lupita a few times, just not recently. Maybe 4-5 years back. You need to keep an open mind.
