Any economists out there that would like to comment on Cavallo's assertion that 'things are worse than 2001....'?
http://www.buenosairesherald.com/article/130738/former-economy-minister-cavallo-we-are-much-worse-than-in-2001
Not that I read The Herald.................

“The current problem is much worse than that of 2001. At that time people bought dollars but in only one market, with total freedom. Thus, there was one value. No there’s no convertibility because people do not have the freedom to buy foreign currency. They are desperate because they want to preserve the value of their savings and they want to buy dollars, which the Government does not allow them to do,” Cavallo assured-

The Blue Rate is overvalued.

That part is interesting with the elections ahead, etc. Right now I can buy a piece of land in Patagonia, either upfront in cash, or with a downpayment + 24 or 36 installments (installments in USD but converted to the official Peso rate).

And I'm still wondering what to do! Everything depends on the spread blue/official.

October elections should see again a victory of the CFK side since the opposition will not form an alliance (how can you mix Binner & Narvaez for instance = they are on 2 different planets). But what will follow?! I suspect a stronger devaluation annual rate & the spread might stay the same or become wider.
Things should change starting in 2015 (I really don't think that CFK will seek a re-reelection, with all the mess changing the Constitution & such would induce).

Peronism has never concerned itself with minor niceties such as constitutions.

Wouldn't it be better to find a seller overseas so you can transfer the money at the Blue Rate?

Joe:

How soon are you planning to upgrade the title of this poll to replace "10" with "15" ?

How long the current correction is going to last, before we start marching towards 15 ? Years ?

Remember, when it hits 15 the masters of the universe are sponsoring a river of booze so that the peso slaves can drown their sorrows.

Rich One, I´m looking at you here.

The peso is way undervalued at 10. It's only because the government is stoking fears of intervention that it has reached these levels. They have created a bubble mentality. The've made the dollar into a Fetish Object even eclipsing the greatest fetish object of all time ... The Fugazzeta.
