Why Does Everyone Here Seem To Hate Buenos Aires So Much?

The Americas in general are a food wasteland. Mexico is good and Columbia is OK, the rest is forgettable at best. At least the Yanquis and Canadians acknowledge that their food sucks and import cuisines from every corner of the world (except Latin America - why bother?)

The inventor of hospital food was Agentina's finest chef of the 19th century. It's true - look it up.

Most of us are decent human beings and when we are with are Argentine friends and they are going on and on and on about how great the empanadas and pizza are, we nod in agreement, as we are choking down the awful pizza in front of us. "Yes" we say, "the food is the best here". We're not totally uncouth after all - except the Yanquis of course. BAexpats is a place we can be honest and say when I've eaten empanadas in Argentina I say, "I ate that?" "Did I eat that or rub it on my face?" "I think I'm going to die."

After lying so many times to our Argentine friends about how great the food is here, don't begrudge us a forum to vent the awful truth.

Where in the world are empanadas better than here? I will go there and eat them.

Ok not quite empanadas but Cornish Pasties are much better.

I find that I really like the empanadas from Salta! We have a family run place across the street that sells them and they are great!
Also, I hate to pander to trolls, but I resent the comment that every American is an uncouth Yankee. If I do not like something and my friends ask, I am honest. They are my friends and will not be angry that I do not agree with them on something.

Depends on where you buy the empanadas, some can be pretty disgusting. Just like some dodgy kebab shops in the UK

Casa del Nona is pretty good, I really like the carne picante empanadas there.

Food ? Again ? My how everyone seems so obsessed with food. Why can't everyone just like what they want , without being so critical of those things which they do not like. There has to be more to a discussion about what people like and/or dislike (NOT HATE !) about Bs As than food.

Yes Food will always be present close second only to SEX, FOOD you can control and is cheaper, cucumbers don't speak back :D

Hey Joe !! Someone else called you a troll !!! Is there anyone you do not insult ? Is there a forum in Hanoi the locals read ? bet you really tear them up.......

You do not need to play her down calling her a 15 years old.

She is Argentine and she is learning English as she mentioned. So, yes her vocabulary is limited. If you knew a little bit more about Argentine culture, you would know that the word "odiar" (=hate) has different connotations and have many levels depending on how you say it and in what context. For instance, every time I prove my Argentine colleague in the office that I was right about something, he replies with a "te odio". I really do not think that he hates me.

Again, I think she has a fair point and that she is doing it in a civilized manner.

Disagree, it is used similarly as it is in english. The example you give is not how she intended it, in capital letters, I would imagine. Her english is fine, hence why I thought she was trolling.

I think she has a point, but I think most people here actually really care about Buenos Aires. I know I do.

I used the english just fine. I know my english and I dont have such a limited vocabulary. Yeah, i can make mistakes and confuse words (specially if i write fast) but this was not the case here. I actually think the world HATE is pretty accurate in camberius case. If you read my message well, i was talking about camberiu. Every post i read from him is full of HATE. And, yeah, hate is the exact word, probably if you read this posters post you would realize that hate is not an exxagerating word to what he feels about this country.

I wasnt refeering to the rest of you.
