I have not seen much of any sample dishes displayed in restaurant show windows.
There are bunch of real looking and almost looking as steaming hot dishes that you can appreciate
before going in to try their offerings before daring to go in and sit down then taking a look
at their menus then finding it is not for you, thus have to leave the place. But no more, you can
sample the available dishes on its restaurant's show windows such as these food galore seen
in the link.

I recall seeing displays in Japanese restaurants around Boston years ago. Around BA I have not seen it, here I have only seen a menu posted outside a few times. Mostly its just a chalk board with the days special (or only).
 
Sometimes your lucky if the place even has a menu on display.
 
I have only seen these in Japan and in Japanese restaurants abroad
You never see then in France, Germany, UK,
Perhaps Korea or China
