Anyone having trouble getting the Billing Address right for the Update Assistant?

I've entered both Argy and Australian addresses & Postcodes, it won't accept the Postal Code format in either case.

There's an army of expats on the MSFT noticeboards having problems registering it from outside their homecountry, but some have managed to get it sorted.

Did you download from the Australian windows site (if there is one) I tried downloading from the UK site to pay in GBP and the currency format is in US$ so it doesn't accept my UK postcode...obviously my Microsoft didn't think of foreigners buying their product....

I tried with my Argentine address at first it didn't work until I put the full postcode that I got from correo argentina: http://www.correoarg...pa/consulta_cpa

Then it said: "We're sorry, PayPal doesn't allow residents of United Kingdom to send purchases to Argentina."

then tried with UK address and Argentine postcode, got through to payment area and it repeated the above error message

what it should say judging by the number of comments on this subject in worldwide forums is: " we enjoyed wasting your time!"

I tried the beta of windows 8 and hated that metro crap they forced on you.

I've had no problems with using my developer copy but I think i'll skip windows 8 and wait for Windows 9.

Hey Jez,

Thanks for the postcode advice, I got to the same Paypal rejection stage... so unless I can set up a proxy server to fool it into thinking I'm in Aus, I'll stick with 7 for the time being. Seriously Microsoft, when users wanting to buy your product have to resort to such means, you're doing something very f*cking wrong! Not that Ballmer's reading BA Expats, but it's good to vent sometimes.

It is unclear to me what advantages Windows 8 brings to a non-touch screen desktop machine. Until I can figure that out, I'll stick with 7.

I use http://hidemyass.com/vpn/ to avoid any problems in US websites using my US credit cards. This product changes your IP address to the country of your preference. It's safe and much faster than the free options out there. I've had a the annual subscription for a couple years now and have had no problems.

Had the same problem and used TunnelBear to get a US IP address. (They also have UK ones.)

I might just bite the bullet and get a permanent VPN set up back home... as a geek I can write it off on tax .

Cheers everyone
