Overstaying your visa in Argentina, makes it difficult to get US work visa?

My girlfriend has been living in Argentina for 2 years now, and had a DNI. It expired in March and she didn't want to pay to renew it for a whole year when she knew she was leaving soon. I know this wasn't the smartest thing to do. She got accepted for a summer internship in Washington D.C...

    Earwax removal?

Anyone know of a place where I can get this done? The cheaper and quicker the better. Don't really want to spend more than 200 pesos and I don't have insurance. Thanks for any info.

    Fire in Torres Del Paine

I know this is Chile, but I'm surprised no one has posted about this yet. I was planning on going there in February and just heard about this news yesterday! Apparently the fire is still burning, but under control. It has already consumed 33,000 acres. Parts of the park have re-opened, but...

    Safety traveling around South America

A friend and I are planning a 2 month trip around S. America starting in February. The rough itinerary is 2-3 weeks in Patagonia, then just head north until Colombia. Mostly by bus, but probably using a plane to get out of Patagonia. I'll just have a 60 litre backpack with me, including about...

Will pizza oust steak as Argentina's favourite dish?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-16082489 Found this article interesting. I met a snobby Argentine the other night who told me that Argentina pizza is like Italian pizza. That was probably the stupidest thing I've heard all week. lol, try triple or quadruple. I know, I know...

ATM robbed me of 200 pesos

I took out 2000 pesos today at the HSBC near Plaza Guemes, in 2 transactions of 1000. I never count the money at the ATM because there's usually people waiting or standing by and I don't like to show that I have large sums of cash. Get back to my house and set it aside. 2 hours later, I need...

    Taxi fares to raise 26%

Saw on the news this morning that starting next Tuesday, fares are raising 26%. Base fare will go from $5.80 to $7.30 and I assume waiting and distance will go from $0.58 to $0.73. They also mentioned that fares have increased over 500% since 2005. Can anyone confirm that?

Any info on Torres del Paine or Fitz Roy?

Flying to El Calafate in late February to spend 7-10 days in the area. Trying to decide whether to go to Torres del Paine or Fitz Roy. The former sounds more expensive, and more of a commitment, and the latter sounds just as beautiful but easier to get around and cheaper. Any difference in...

I haven't been able to get a good night's rest anywhere here

Had to get this off my chest, as it's really starting to affect my mood and overall health: 1st apartment: On Rivadavia, one of the busiest streets in the city. Noise all night. 2nd apartment: Palermo Soho, the elevator beeped extremely loud whenever the elevator door was left open for more...

    Flying home for Christmas

I wasn't originally planning on going home, but now I'm toying with the idea. Roundtrip to Chicago for about $1257 right now, with a stop in D.C. Is that a pretty good deal? Should I buy now before fares increase? (goddamn flights are expensive :( )

Has anyone been to Tandil? Where to stay?

Thinking about making a last-minute trip there over the long weekend. Is there enough to do there for 2 days? Any recommendations for a hotel or hostel? (doesn't have to be fancy!) Thanks!

Argentines are wimps when it comes to weather

It's 25C today (77F) and people at work are complaining "25 grados, mucho calor!!!" They just turned on the air conditioning. Unbelievable. I remember a few months ago when it was around 10C (50F) and people were walking around the city with their faces covered up, due to the cold. What's...
