Apologies if I offended anybody but i just didnt want advice and comments from long term US expats and made that very clear in my first post but some of them chose to opine regardless despite not being invited to do so. Not entirely unexpected though....

I do enjoy wine and coffee though but with dinner but prefer to socialize outside of the expat community. (I hope this is not offensive to anybody and just a preference of mine)

Ok so you want opinions from newcomers, not long termers apparently. Well I'm not a newcomer, but if you tell any newcomers how much money you have and what you should be doing at the weekend, I think the answer is almost surely going to be: hookers & blow. If you want to socialize with the higher class of society, the response will still be, hookers & blow.

I mean seriously??? If your social opener is "Hey I have 1 million dollars and no idea what to do with it" it doesn't matter if you want to socialised with expats or with locals, I can pretty much guarantee you will be parted from your money very quickly.

You don't offend. You moderately entertain, but mostly bore. Get some new material, troll. Like I said earlier, the Ferrari, football agent bullshit story was entertaining. The what to do with a million dollars isn't very creative, mostly because it isn't really that much money.

Wait a month and come back with some better material. We are trying to provide constructive criticism here. You can do it!

Well yes, and I see he also claims he already has an apartment sorted, so he can't possibly as naive as he claims if he has already invested in real estate here.

Hi Sleslie23

thats the point. $1 million USD is not so much these days and certainly doesn't go very far in the USA hence my question to understand how far it would go in BA. Please stick to my original question rather than meander off giving advice that no-one is asking you for.

Thanks
MM

Oh man, reading this thread cracks me up! So, I might as well chime in,,, I've been reading all the links which some kind folks have posted on clubs for Tango dancing and can't wait to get there to try my steps. It looks like there are quite a few interesting clubs and events going on to keep someone occupied at any age. Thanks you all for keeping the forums going. I appreciate the great input and laughs! I'll be there second weekend of April and reading your posts until then. Besos!

Musicman, Can you confirm your hobbies please - so that we can advise different options, as how you can spend time in BA.

I think 1 million USD will last for quite some time. My advise would be not to change it to pesos in one go. Rather "change as you go". So lets say - you can start changing 5000 usd a month to pesos. Considering a apartment is sorted out ( No rent), this will go a long way and you could well last for about 15 years ~20 years doing no work and living a high standard of life ( wining,/dining/Hookers/ full time maids). Guess you will be bringing your Ferarri, so you wont be using Taxis? I am not sure how much will be the insurance cost of the Ferrari - but would be ok, if you are spending 5000 usd a month. Hope this helps.
