3D Tv: Is It Worth It?

I've had a 60 inch 3d tv for a while, and I have to say the novelty of 3d wears off in about two weeks.

At the best buy near my house in Portland and at fry's I have seen the samsung uhd TVs and the curved led TVs and the sony 4k TVs, and I can say 4k is amazing. Much clearer and brighter than even the best 1080 TVs. I can't wait for the prices to come down. In a couple of years I plan on having a 4k tv, especially when there will be more content broadcast in 4k.

I would recommend buying a tv based on black levels, picture quality, and price and not on bells and whistles like 3d.

Here in Argentina unless you have a 3d blu ray player you won't get 3d. I'm not sure if Netflix does 3d here in Argentina, in the USA Netflix has some movies and documentaries in 3d. But again it gets old after two weeks or so, and you want to have at least 4 pairs of 3d glasses. ( it is more fun watching 3d with a lot of people)

By the way I think the samsung uhd TVs are $40,000.

After seeing the curved LEDs I can say I really don't understand curved TVs. But I can imagine in the future having complete surround TVs, that would be cool.

I was back in the States to visit my folks, back in January, for the first time in about 5 years.

My father had recently bought a 3d TV and was anxious to show it off to me. I have to admit, it was cool - but the only thing he had to show me was a few recorded shows from the 3D channel (crappy stuff). He told me he couldn't find DVDs, for example, with 3D content, or at least those he could find were very expensive.

NetFlix Argentina doesn't have any 3D content that I've seen.

My conclusion is, it's too early yet, especially here.

Speaking of TV's where can one find the best deals on purchasing them? I am interested in a 42-46 inch LED, the prices of course are ridiculous compared to the US.

Its not to early, its dead as a dodo.
I think ESPN was the last broadcaster and they abandoned it recently.

Keep your eyes open sometimes you'll see an offer. If you are really desperate work out the 50% tax thingy and a ticket to the states/Chile/somewhere. It will probably still work out cheaper.

I just checked Gabarino's website. They have a 47" LED JVC Smart TV (LT-47DR940) on sale for $9999 with an "advertised "discount" of $5000 pesos.

The ad, however, does NOT indicate that it is a 3D TV! (though It does in the specs).

Rodo has the exact same same model for an advertised price of $9999 but does not indicate that it is a discounted price!

At least Garbarino offers 12 quotas without interest.

The question today is if anyone has a JVC LED TV and if they like it or have had any problems with it.

Just in case anyone is in the market at the moment...

I received an email from Garbarino yesterday. This weekend they have a 39" Philips LED (full HD) TV on "sale" for $5999 and offer 18 payments interest free:

http://www.garbarino...9-77/2f0f990400

Their list price of $9,499 is higher than other vendors and the lowest price for the same TV on Mercado Libre for $5499 (but not with18 interest free payments for almost all credit cards).

It's not a "Smart TV" and doesn't have 3D, but it looks like the "best buy" at the moment for anyone who wants a basic model like this with low monthly payments (about $335 pesos per month). Prices jumped quite a bit after I made the previous post (almost a year ago) and for a while there weren't any TVs offered with 18 interest free payments ( for about six months the 6 payment option was common and the 12 payment option was rare). This price is close to what they were before the increases in 2014.

Is there a noticeable difference between 1080 and 4k? Ive never seen a 4k before.

As different as Luna and Sol. The HD T.V. in order to watch, I have to use my prescription glasses to be able to discern images on HD
format. Went to Sony stores and watched the 4K format and could see those images clearly without my glasses !

I have to use 2.5 magnifying glasses to be able to discern HD images (not Blu-Ray) on a 40" TV at the foot of my bed.

The TV cost $6000 pesos and the glasses cost $7.00USD.

How much more would it cost to be viewing a 4K TV without the glasses?

Right now the difference in price is worth noting but the new tech products always becomes more affordable.

A High Definition TV with 1080p resolution is composed of two million pixels (1920 x 1080), while a 4K TV (aka Ultra High Definition) has over eight million pixels (3840 x 2160). Therefore, 4K has around four times more resolution than 1080p and produces a clearer picture.
