A restaurant that has me addicted ( First Time in BA )

What's the bonkers part? The lack of ethics by an adminstrator who doesn't identify himself as such publicly? Of course, that pales in comparison to how good a restaurant is.

We all know he's a mod/admin involved with the site. Get over it. Go to the restaurant or don't.

I went to Sipan tonight based on these recommendations and some others and I have to say I was incredibly disappointed.

It was not that good and actually paled in comparison to Osaka and Paru. Two of us spent $450 pesos and didn't have anything that stood out. The first sushi roll was ok (I believe it was the Sipan roll with avocado). The second one with sweet potato was horrible. I tried the lomo empanada and was not impressed. The ceviche was nothing more than average, and way overpriced for the quality. The shrimp salad, also average and the friend shrimp in it were relatively flavorless. The beef entree was ok. It had some good flavor, but was nothing to rave about. The only good thing I had was the maracuya sour.

If you're going to spend this kind of money, go to Paru or Osaka. I went to Paru last week and every single thing that I had was great. Amazing sushi, fresh sashimi, great tiraditos and ceviches, and really good lamb chops.

Oh no! That's terrible.

I have to say, I enjoyed my meal when we went. I've only gone once. It's not my favorite Peruvian. But it was very good when we went. We didn't order nearly as much as you did, only two types of ceviche plus something else I don't remember now. The pisco sours were delicious. Maybe we had to many of those before we ate. LOL.

But I have to say, I'm somehow not surprise because I find that the lack of consistency is really a huge problem with restaurants in Buenos Aires. When we went to Osaka none of us liked our dinner. But we didn't have the sushi nor the ceviche there. We three different hot dishes from the Peruvian menu.

We had dinner at Sipan in Punta del Este a couple of nights ago. I have to say I was disappointed with the food and it was a bit too expensive even for PdE ($51 US dollars for a ceviche). Yet the place was fully booked on a wednesday night.

Last year we went to the one here in BA with 9 other friends and the food was excellent. Everyone loved the Tacu Tacu dish, and the main courses were big enough to share among two or more.

To be frank I find this post harsh and completely opposite to my and many of my friends experiences and we are all foodies with very high standards in food, quality, service and ambience.

I have eaten in Sipan 10 times and every time its been very good and most people agree if you look at Guia Oleo which rates it as Buenos Aires best Peruvian restaurant http://www.guiaoleo.com.ar/restaurantes/Sipan-Cocina-Peruana-Pisco-Bar-3610

I find Osaka very good as well and will be trying Paru in the near future. Saying all that there are many great Peruvian restaurants in Buenos Aires but I do have a favourite and I am sure you can guess which one it is:)

I tried the sushi at Saipan . I thought it was the best in the world.

I don't think it was "harsh." It was my experience, and while I may not be as much of a "foodie" as you and your friends, I have managed to eat at some of the best restaurants in New York on quite a regular basis.

I had no pre-conceived notions going in, and was looking forward to a great meal based on the reviews I had heard. However, that was not what I got, so I posted my thoughts. The food was passable, but by no means worth the price when, IMHO, there are numerous better options.

I respect your opinion about your experience but I beg to differ as do thousands of others who have rated Sipan the best Peruvian restaurant in Buenos Aires. I am sure they cannot all be wrong !!!

I dislike most restaurants here and believe that they serve low quality meals but in this case I beg to differ and have been very pleased with the cuisine in 10 visits.
