Are The Italians To Blame For Argentina's Demise

Peron's ancestry was Sardinian not Calabrian or Sicilian. He also had French and Scotish ancestry and I understand Galician.

What does that prove? Nothing!

Definition of RACISM : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race

So you went to Italy in the summer and that makes you an expert on Italian culture? I say that indicates you are a bigot.

Anti-Italianism is a widespread component of culture in the USA that coincides with the period of large-scale Italian immigration beginning in the last part of the 19th century. It surfaced most recently in some of the utterances of Mitt Romney.

Just so we all know what we are dealing with here http://en.wikipedia....Anti-Italianism

The Italian migration from the 1860's to the 1960's was one of the largest emigrations from Europe and the Italian diaspora is found in Uruguay, Brazil and Venezuela as well as Argentina in South America and in North America, Australian etc. anti Italian stereotyping exists in all these places.

Does Uruguay also with a large proportion of immigrant Italians fit this description of a failed economy/society? Or Australia or Brazil?

Italians are not a special race as far as i know, and so i wouldnt call this racism. Cultural heritage is another thing, and definitely does influence in the course a country takes, and therefor can be to blame for certain negative issues, aswell as positive things. Argentina is the country with most Italians after Italy, far more than Brazil, or Australia, and so its logical to say that the influence of the Italian culture is bigger in Argentina than it is in the other two countries. As its not the only thing that determines what happens, you cant just say that because Australia isnt in the same state as Argentina and both have had their share of Italian immigration, the way both countries are now has nothing to do with that immigration. Maybe the effect of it wasnt the same, and maybe in Australia the combination of other factors led to another outcome. I personally find the similarities between Italy and Argentina easy to see walking around in both countries. Again, im not saying italian heritage is the only cause of problems in Argentina, but its not impossible that the problems the culture causes in Italy were transported to Argentina together with the people.

Guys, please, I am Italian and I swear that the Argentine "crisis" is not due to any type of cultural heritage.
The only heritage they have is the love for food, women and their good temper.
The on-going situation is just the result of their overall management.

Cheers

As racist as I may sound, I cannot help but see some resemblance between CFK and Nero :p

I just can't help it guys, sorry.......

Well the fascism is definitely Mussolini's. There's no denying that. Peron himself admitted to being in love with the system.

There are differences however, in Italy Mussolini's body was publicly hanged to be "humiliated", in Argentina Peron was and is worshipped.

@Lamb

1. identifying "Italians" as a seperate hate group is racism. There is case law on this. The same as "Irish" or "British" etc etc for the purposes of racial equality and discrimination legislation. There are numerous other examples and its simply splitting hairs to pretend otherwise.

2. your words ..."Argentina is the country with most Italians after Italy, far more than Brazil" - but as far as I can find you are simply wrong

Italian Brazilians are the largest number of people with full or partial Italian ancestry outside of Italy. According to Wikipedia at least.

3. You equivocate .. "im not saying italian heritage is the only cause of problems in Argentina" but that is exactly what the thread starts with saying and what a previous poster also said and you appear to be rushing to defend this and associate yourself with racist sentiments.

No one would deny that ethnicity in relevant in explaining culture - but I say it is a minor distraction in explaining economic and social development and the province of bigots

I think you would be stretching it comparing the proportion of italian ancestry of Argentina with Australia. Australia is very multicultural, but Italian ancestry is a long gallop behind England Ireland, Scotland etc.

In fact, less than 4% of Australians have Italian ancestry, as opposed to Argentina where it is around 60%.

I dont blame Italian heritage for where Argentina is at, in fact to be honest I haven´t really thought about that one.

Phil with this post you've just got yourself promoted to Field Marshall of the Political Correctness police.

As a percentage of the population, Italians make up a far larger percentage of the population in Argentina than in Brazil (and Australia) - which you know is far more relevant Of course this propaganda technique of obfuscation you employ is quite common in the Political Correct police state.

And if this is a ridiculous proposition then what is the explanation for Argentina's failure? It is a very lazy and an intellectually inferior method to just resort to calling someone a racist then to intelligently dispose of their argument and/or to offer an alternative explanation.

We don't need pseudo intellectual political correctness - save that for your professor in uni.
