The horror! - Col. Kurtz.

I fear that things have gone so far in the wrong direction with this government that there may be no turning back to sanity. The country may be on an irrevocable road to ruin. On the up side, if the law is passed Porteños may have to stop telling expats who complain about problems in Argentina to "go home - go back where you came from". Clearly the center of power has shifted and is now marginalizing the traditional Argentine middle class.

That'll be why the Campora are specialising in invading schools at the moment?

i wonder how many Paraguayans, Bolivians, Chileans, Peruvians, Uruguayans and Brazilians are supportive of her.

Dont seem bad at all...now we can all personally vote against that crazy biatch Cristina.....

I think there was a couple discussions regarding voting rights for permanent residents a few months back. I am sure more than a few legal permanent residents would love to vote in the countries general elections.

Overall I think allowing more people to vote is a good thing. Who knows.

Allowing more people to vote when it is an informed vote is a great thing.

Allowing more to vote when it is a bought/manipulated vote is terrible.

This is increasing the voting population by 10%, 1million perm residents and 2 million minors -- do you really think that 16-18 year olds are very informed? Most certainly are not. Very few 18-25 year olds are informed.

Furthermore most of this 10% are from umm, shall we say non-professional workers -- in effect taking away more power from the rapidly shrinking middle class in Argentina.

The propaganda machine has been running steady the last few years among the poor immigrants, many of whom (I don't know if I could say most) have permanent residency through MERCOSUR citizenship. I know people (personally, not incidentally) who live in the villa near me and they and most who live there (according to them) are avid believers that Cristina is the savior (they know next to nothing about Peron and Eva for the most part) and would absolutely vote for her if they could.

That's what the Peronists are after, and probably have been thinking about this for some time.

My permanent resident DNI booklet already came with voting pages...

EXACTLY. This will further marginalize the shrinking middle class.

This is what worries me most. Will permanent residents be REQUIRED to vote?
