Falklands Referendum

The conflict is between Argentina and the UK over the control of an ( strategic ) area of the South Atlantic adjacent to Argentine shores. The Islanders handed over their foreign matters to the government of the UK, it was their choice. The Islanders way of life is even protected by the Argentine Constitution. The only commercial flight from the continent ( LAN ) goes thru Argentine airspace with Argentine approval. If some day the Islanders decide to declare independence that will effectively means the end of the conflict.

There is nothing strategic about the Falklands, except that it helps distract Argentines from their serious daily problems.

The British invaded Buenos Aires twice and wreaked havoc twice after that, so it would be naive to think they would never do so again.

Do you really believe that? Because I don't think anyone else British, Argentine, or otherwise does.

Well, whatever I believe is irrelevant, now if you really wanna know what the conflict is about, it's right there in those documents that used to be a state secret... however I do believe there's no reason for Argentina to go after the Islands if they get Independent ( unless they keep a foreign military base, not just UK, any country )

Such a simple solution for such an intransigent dispute. Well it just so happens that the Falklanders are now voting on this very issue, let's see how many of them believe your theory.

The referendum question, as there seem to be more than a few people who think it is a choice between British and Argentine rule:

Do you wish the Falkland Islands to retain their current political status as an Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom? YES or NO
