Gay Marriage Passes in Arg Senate

Damn, apart from joeblow I didn't get a rise (pun intended) Oh well - I'm back in Perth working 12 hour days - I need the relief (ditto) Oh - yes - joe - shocking as it may seem I have had intercourse before - I am guessing possibly a bit more than you have ;) For the record I actually quite like it - but I'm just one of those truly weird chaps who thinks its normal to do it with a member of the opposite sex and not normal to do it with someone of the same sex ;) Okay, call me crazy - but I just don't think anything beats the original and the best :)

The way I look at it that square peg WILL fit in a round hole if you try hard enough to force it - but why not stick the ROUND peg in the round hole instead?

I'm just wondering - I don't have a time machine - but I can't help thinking that the way things are going maybe in a hundred years from now it will be heterosexuality that will be banned and people like me will be part of some underground movement fighting for the legal recognition of heterosexuality ?

This whole thread reminds me of a chapter out of "Savaged States of America"...

Okay - time for a late night scotch and some sleep :)

Why do some people not come to Jesus? They love their sin.

Well, that pretty much sums up your bigotry. Note that VoT isn't just opposed to homosexuality; VoT hates everyone who does not believe precisely what s/he believes. That means that followers of every major religion save Christianity - including, I would be willing to bet, Catholics - are motivated by nothing more than their love of sin. Hindu? You're addicted to sin! Jewish? Lover of sin! Mormon? Holy shit, let's not even go there.

VoT, you are a seriously depraved human being. And I suspect that the reason you are hiding your identity is because you know it. You show up on this site to comment on one thread alone, never having before posted. This likely means that you are one of two things:

1) A regular who is merely 100% chicken shit and won't take personal responsibility for your views

or

2) Some pathetic loser, probably based in America, trolling any and all internet forums before landing on one where the regular users made the mistake of taking you seriously.

Why do I get the feeling that like all Christian bigots you're probably getting a little gay love action on the down low when you aren't busy hating yourself through hating others? Tell the truth, voice of truth: Are you actually lonely Ted Haggard looking to hike the Appalachian Trail in your own special way?

all I have to say is.....yeah, Maradona's infamous phrase pretty much sums it up!!!!!

May I ask Choripan what your personal beliefs are? Are you an atheist? Agnostic? In fact that question goes out to anyone. Just curious.

Well, I have to confess that I'm an atheist, alcoholic, heterosexual, sex maniac, with tendencies to 'go threesome' if the opportunity arises and I'm definitely a sinner, which I'm enjoying immensely.
Now, lets get on with our interesting lives.

Dammit! My soulmate's a guy!

I really hate it when that happens!

(Homosexuality is not a choice.)

Hey VOT, It seems god is pretty clear on sodomy but where does it draw the line. What are god's policies on:

-oral sex
-circle jerking
-rimming
-tea bagging
-turkey slapping
-group masturbation games involving biscuits
-holding hands
-listening to a little too much Madonna

...and how many men have kissed the pope's ring anyway?

VoT, you didn't answer my last set of questions. Not that you have to! I'm just sayin.

In other news, this looked interesting from the paper:

God has mellowed. The God that most Americans worship occasionally gets upset about abortion and gay marriage, but he is a softy compared with the Yahweh of the Hebrew Bible. That was a warrior God, savagely tribal, deeply insecure about his status and willing to commit mass murder to show off his powers. But at least Yahweh had strong moral views, occasionally enlightened ones, about how the Israelites should behave. His hunter-gatherer ancestors, by contrast, were doofus gods. Morally clueless, they were often yelled at by their people and tended toward quirky obsessions. One thunder god would get mad if people combed their hair during a storm or watched dogs mate.

In his brilliant new book, “The Evolution of God,” Robert Wright tells the story of how God grew up. He starts with the deities of hunter-*gatherer tribes, moves to those of chiefdoms and nations, then on to the polytheism of the early Israelites and the monotheism that followed, and then to the New Testament and the Koran, before finishing off with the modern multinational Gods of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Wright’s tone is reasoned and careful, even hesitant, throughout, and it is nice to read about issues like the morality of Christ and the meaning of jihad without getting the feeling that you are being shouted at. His views, though, are provocative and controversial. There is something here to annoy almost everyone.

In sharp contrast to many contemporary secularists, Wright is bullish about monotheism. In “Nonzero: The Logic of Human Destiny” (2000), he argued that there is a moral direction to human history, that technological growth and expanding global interconnectedness have moved us toward ever more positive and mutually beneficial relationships with others. In “The Evolution of God,” Wright tells a similar story from a religious standpoint, proposing that the increasing goodness of God reflects the increasing goodness of our species. “As the scope of social organization grows, God tends to eventually catch up, drawing a larger expanse of humanity under his protection, or at least a larger expanse of humanity under his toleration.” Wright argues that each of the major Abrahamic faiths has been forced toward moral growth as it found itself interacting with other faiths on a multinational level, and that this expansion of the moral imagination reflects “a higher purpose, a transcendent moral order.”

This sounds pro-religion, but don’t expect Pope Benedict XVI to be quoting from Wright’s book anytime soon. Wright makes it clear that he is tracking people’s conception of the divine, not the divine itself. He describes this as “a good news/bad news joke for traditionalist Christians, Muslims and Jews.” The bad news is that your God was born imperfect. The good news is that he doesn’t really exist.

Voice, you answered my question just as I thought you would. Yours is the classic, predictable evangelical conviction that homosexuality has to be a learned behaviour. God just wouldn't allow it to be otherwise. But I am afraid you are wrong. While I believe that sexuality can be a sort of sliding scale (some are more inclined one way than the other but not always 100% one or the other), I'm convinced that the inclination toward homosexuality is almost always inherent. Your view is that homosexuality is sinful, not just homosexual acts but the actual state of being homosexual. By believing this you condemn all those people who experience homosexual feelings, even those who never act on it. Your religious convictions, grounded in a rigid view of scripture, have stripped you of compassion. Anyone who professes faith in Christ accepts the fact that we are all sinful by nature. That is a fundamental of the Christian faith but you assume that you have a simple answer to complex issues such as this one (homosexuality) when you do not. I go back to my comments about Ted Haggard. He is just one well-known example of a man struggling with his sexuality. People have called him a hypocrite but I think that is unfair. He would be a hypocrite if he condemned homosexuality then engaged in homosexual acts without believing them to be wrong. He did engage in homosexual acts but I am almost certain that he always believed them to be wrong. He was just weak and incapable of controlling himself. The pressures of his religion and society led to his getting married and having children -- all of which he did to satisfy the conventions of a conservative, evangelical community even though it was a lie in terms of his true sexual nature. And look what it has done to his wife and children. Did they deserve the humiliation? You state that alcoholics are not born alcoholics. I am not sure that you are entirely right. It may well be true that a genetic predisposition toward alcoholism is inherited. And there are children born with HIV. They inherited that from their mothers. Maybe some day in the future when you have had a little more contact with gay Christians you will begin to rethink your views on this subject. One more question. A lot of readers here have made comments regarding Catholicism. I suspect that you reject the Catholic faith, the Pope and the teachings of the Catholic Church. Am I right? You must surely believe that the Catholic Church is radically wrong in its teachings. Do you believe that the Pope is the anti-Christ?

What is Turkey slapping? Anything sexual?

BTW (that's the first time I have written that in my life, thank you very much), I started chuckling thinking about this post this morning while walking to work.
