iPhone with working data on Movistar pre-paid

Can you sign the contract without a legal residence? I don't like to sign a contract for a long time eventhough I probally spend 100-200 peso a month in pre paid cards

Impossible for a plan I guess, maybe possible with the prepaid system (as it seems)

I have the unlimited Claro plan they sold a year ago.
229 pesos for unlimited internet 3g, 400 mins to any phone in Argentina, 400 SMS.

I live 50 kms away from Capital, in a small village, and I get decent speeds (up to 250 kBs on bittorrent = therefore I hit sometimes 2 megas). I even download more than 20 GIGAS a month (Where I live not that many people even have a computer so I get full speed).
When in Microcentro or Palermo, 3g traffic is quite heavy.

go to Youtube and do a search...a million vids up there on the topic

if you are gonna use a lot of 3g you should get a plan, not a pay as yo go line, personal offers a unlimited 3g usage plan for 150 pesos for iPhones, and movistar offers packs of data from 25 to 500 or a 1000 MB, the 500 MB data pack costs 70 pesos a month (plus taxes I think)

I bought a Motorola Milestone and it came with a 150 plan with a lot of minutes and sms and 500 MB and I barely use 200+ MB a month and I use 3g a lot, everyday I browse, email, download apps etc and I pay a fixed 150 peso bill

The problem for most expats is that they cannot get a plan without residence and a DNI. I do not think you can pre-buy data from Movistar either.

I believe the 3 carriers here offer prepaid data plans, but they are very expensive compared to contract.

Movistar (1GB for 1 day = $10 -- you can buy via SMS text):

Personal: http://www.personal.com.ar/servicios/datos/internet_en_tu_celular_planes.html

I posted links for similar data plans for laptops (3G USB dongle) here.

Thanks for the great tip. Using the regular double your credits Movistar frequently texts to your phone, you can effectively get a 3G service for a full month for $150 with 30GB usage allowance. Not bad at all. That's better than I can get back home in terms of price and usage allowance. :)

Can somebody tell me if you buy a Iphone in Euope you can use it with a pre-paid Movistar card?

Only if it is factory unlocked (based on the country you purchased from). If not, you will have to Jailbreak it to get it to work with any other GSM carriers (like Movistar).
