'resistance' (clave word) they must be resisting something....aggression, deprivation, pride, occupation, extermination exploitation, expropriation, their own land to live dignified and free, etc, etc, etc.
Yes, they are resisting "something", but it is not any of the noble things you guess at. The Hamas Charter of 1988, history and an elementary knowledge of the core tenets of Islam evidence
beyond the shadow of a doubt that what Hamas resists is the continued existence of the state of Israel (along with a lot of other stuff you would find shocking). Thats why the UN, EU, Russia and US have all defined Hamas as an outlawed, terrorist organization.
For anyone who hasn't bothered to read the Hamas charter I urge you to do so. Just google it and you will get oodles of choices, annotated and otherwise. There is a lot of scary stuff in there, way too many horrific pronouncements to try to repeat here although I think the following portions are especially pertinent to the topic.
Introduction:
"
Israel will rise and will remain erect until Islam eliminates it as it had eliminated its predecessors."
Article Eleven: The Strategy of Hamas: Palestine is an Islamic Waqf
(“A waqf is an unconditional/permanent dedication of property with implied detention in the ownership of god)
The Islamic Resistance Movement (aka Hamas) believes that the land of Palestine has been an Islamic Waqf throughout the generations and until the Day of Resurrection, no one can renounce it or part of it, or abandon it or part of it.
Article Thirteen: Peaceful Solutions, [Peace] Initiatives and International Conferences
[
Peace] initiatives, the so-called peaceful solutions, and the international conferences to resolve the Palestinian problem, are all contrary to the beliefs of the Islamic Resistance Movement.
Hamas, like Hexbollah, Al Qaida and the various Taliban, is a fundamentalist religious organization. Article One of the Charter provides:
Article One: The Ideological Aspects:
The Islamic Resistance Movement draws its guidelines from Islam; derves from it its thinking, interpretations and views about existence, life and humanity; refers back to it for its conduct; and is inspired by it in whatever step it takes.
In accord with the dictates of Islam's holy book, the Quran, Hamas seeks to impose by jihad a worldwide caliphate, e.g., a totalitarian theocracy governed by sharia law. Sharia law prohibits freedom of religion. You must convert to Islam, or live as a subjugated "dhimmi", ...or be put to death. Sharia prohibits freedom of conscience. All schools of Islamic thought prescribe death for apostasy. Sharia prohibits freedom of expression. You can be put to death if you criticize (blaspheme) the faith or its prophet, Mohammed. Remember Salman Rushdie ?
Sharia is not exactly a user-friendly code of conduct. It prescribes death for premarital sex (for the women only, of course) and has similar attitudes and penalties for homosexual conduct. Women are treated as second class citizens under the law and physical abuse of wives is condoned. Just ask any Muslim if you don't believe me.
Islam is an intolerant, supremacist belief system founded by an illiterate warrior, based upon barbaric values frozen in time. Its holy book refers to Jews and Christains as apes and pigs (or is that pigs and apes) and I especially get a kick out of the Quran's promise of 72 virgins in paradise for death as a warrior in the service of Allah for world domination. Islam is not a religion of peace. Whoever thinks that is totally ignorant of the most basic principles of Islam.
I am not a religious person, but I really don't like Islam and frankly, I can't understand why anyone would. Former Spanish PM, Aznar, tells it like it is in the Times editorial quoted in full above. Says he:
The West is going through a period of confusion over the shape of the world’s future. To a great extent, this confusion is caused by a kind of masochistic self-doubt over our own identity; by the rule of political correctness; by a multiculturalism that forces us to our knees before others; and by a secularism which, irony of ironies, blinds us even when we are confronted by jihadis promoting the most fanatical incarnation of their faith.
