about to do my seventh run to the land of lighthouses, stray dogs and damn expensive lunches. :D

anyone been in last month or so? Any real, visible signs of crackdowns?

I'm actually nervous this time

Why not fly to Montevideo on PLUNA out of Newberry?

I did today 610 am back on the 545 pm all 4 stamps no big deal easy not a question asked... did not stay over night, booked a week ago for 109 usd... if you stay the night its only like 69 + tax... its 40 min in the air and you gain 10 min on the way back...

take the bus there the 33 and 45 go to the airport from Reitro... when at carracas airport take anything to Plaza Independence... for 29 UR pesos or 1.15c usd...

and the Carracas airport is amazing ummm it looks like a spaceship in the land that time forgot...

Run the Rambla, blow 40 bucks on the best french food i've had this side of the Atlantic...

See the old town... hell i did it all in one day you don't have to stay, they dont care, and either did AR immigration which you pass at their airport not this one here so once out of Carracas you are scott free!!!

109usd is much cheaper and faster than a 3hr tour, sea sickness and a shitty old town!

Just my opinion

Until we know exactly who the decreto is targeting and if it is being unilaterally applied... it is impossible to know exactly how it will be enforced... This was exactly my point.

One thing we do know...at least based on what happened to two members who have posted about what happened to them: going to the office of migraciones to ask for a new prorroga when you already have a bunch of stamps in your passport will result in an ULTIMA prorroga. They both got 90 days. One is married to an Argentine and the other is planning to marry one so they both have a solution to the problem of obtaining (permanent) residency and staying 100% legal.

If I understand correctly, the new decreto is targeted at foreigners who are "living" in Argentina more than 180 days per year without resident status. Apparently the individual border agents still have some latitude and enforcement isn't being unilaterally applied...at least not yet.

If the immigration agents at the ports of entry can do the math and calculate how many days someone has been in Argentina in order to levy the overstay fine they probably can count twice as high to determine if an individual has been in country more than 180 days in a given year.

Perhaps the fact that they have not yet strictly enforced the new decreto is simply a courtesy. Those who are living here without residency have time to get regular or get out (and possibly stay out for six months at a time). Eventually it probably won't matter how many stamps anyone has. It will just be an question of whether or not they have exceeded six months in a twelve month period.

To overstay and to have several visa renewal are equaly irregularities after decreto 616. Don`t waste you money and risk your self. Regards

I may be wrong (please correct me) but Zack... wasn't this your first visit to Argentina? If so, your post is completely missing the point and you're a long way away from the immigrations worries that the rest of us have been talking about. Unfortunately the concern isn't about the most pleasant place to spend the day...

None and there were none on my flight... because they were not looking for them... They did not care it was all business travelers and funny more than 1/2 the people on the way out were on my flight the way back...

if you are within your time here they can not deny you entry... they may charge you thee 140 at the airport, wait no they wont because you clear argentine customs in Uruguay!!!! if you dont take a bag or a carry on they dont even make you go through the scanner on the way back. hell people had duty free stuff and did not get scanned... the guy next to me travels on a mexico passport and goes on this flight run 3 times a week...

Think about it why go do what all the other "rulebenders" are doing there are so many other ways to do this!!!

Ill never go to Colonia for my renewal, why do what all the others do... that just makes it easy for them to look at you.

Honestly they only question i got asked was how did i like my lunch, because my receipt was in my passport...

www.flypluna.com

Also figured out how to get the Argentine price on internal flights with my passport, but im not sharing that!!!!

Right but don't keep going to the same place the same way... its like running bc bud out of Canada... you never go to the same crossing in the same 6 months ever!!! not that i know anything about this, or you take a boat for a day trip to victoria vs crossing in the car...

jeeze are you guys drinking the water here or what?

Why are you worried you are an american citizen pay the 140 at eze get the visa on page 24 and come and go as you want... for 10 yrs!!!

I noticed leaving AEP that the visa was the only thing she looked at and it was because she told me she had never seen one yet! and my entry stamp was from EZE...

use AEP they have 2 intl gates... or go to Santiago those flights are dirt cheap too... the ferry is expensive and way overused by way too many expats and brits and Canadians doing this...

its not rocket science, its Argentina!

my passport page 12 says Republica Argentina 25 OCT 2010 Tourista 90 days right next to and i mean they share a square to the one i entered with only difference is the stamp from 30 SEPT 10 is marked 1125 which is EZE and the one from today is 1451...

Way more believable that you would go to Carracas Airport and back numerous times vs Colonia???? really colonia 7 times?

The ten year visa fee applies to the tourist visa which is good for 90 days and may be renewed once (in a 12 month period) at migraciones. It does not confer residency.

Being an "American citizen" in Argentina doesn't confer any special rights. It only entails the obligation to pay the fee.

Argentina has the right to determine who can stay and who must go...just like every other country I can think of, including the USA.

Yessir. Agreed. It has always been an issue of consistency...

I'm not as certain as you that all the 'permatourists' are the targets of this one however... They are a pretty inoffensive lot in general... :D I don't see the angle.

If it is to drive them to the rentista for a cash grab... JMO... but Why implement stringent changes at the same time that would actually have the opposite effect? Those new changes would (on the surface) seem to me to actually drive more people to become permatouristas not the other way round. This leads me to believe like 'Bajo' said that it is most likely a specific 'element' of the permatourists...

Until the 'hidden agenda' becomes clear over time it is impossible to predict enforcement patterns...

The two members getting the 'ultima prorroga' does not necessarily surprise me as shaking the beehive is NEVER a good idea... :) Even when it is done for the right reasons... My friends and I joke that we need tee shirts that say 'don't wake the beast'... :D

Obviously I happen to agree with 'Bajo' that the smarter play is to stay off the grid and not tempt fate with constant runs to Colonia... Eventually the law of averages will catch up to you.
