New Yorkers have known for decades how difficult or nearly impossible it has been to get a medallion which can cost up to U$D 1million.Usually,most yellow cab drivers are immigrants who are either unable or unwilling to secure other employment.Since some of them have a perpetual "chip on their shoulder" due to their personal situation, yes, they can be "hellishly rude".
.This attitude sometimes surfaces in dealing with passengers whom they perceive to be foreigners like themseves, I am a native New Yorker but one day upon taking a yellow cab with an Argentine friend with whom I spoke in Spanish. The attitude of the middle eastern cab driver became markedly arrogant. So much so,that I decided to give him a "dressing dowm" in "newyorkese" with a few necessary expletives,
As Ceviche states.Hopefully, this situation will be somewhat improved with the new green cabs and Uber as well.

Just read it. but its from 2013. As of 2016, the green cabs are working pretty well. And if I am in Queens, its so easy to hail a green cab and get to Manhattan ( unlike in 2012 and before). The drivers are super friendly, do not demand a tip and zero attitude.

Have been using Uber frequently since it launched here. I have nothing but good things to say. Polite drivers, nice clean cars, prompt service, good prices.

RideAustin also said it will comply with Austin's requirement that TNC drivers pass a fingerprint-based background check. That was a major reason why Uber and Lyft left Austin, arguing that fingerprinting slowed the precious on-boarding process of drivers.

Lol Uber and Lyft are terrible companies.
