I think you are picking on the small export of trees and soil to Yemen and Quatar instead of considering the big picture.

I find the idea of exporting soil to the Middle East more than a little preposterous but, even if Brazil wanted to do so, it does not have rich soil in abundance.

Well, you implied that much of the land is low fertility TRF, which is not accurate. There is cerrado, araucaria, pantanal, mata atlantica, caatinga, etc...The low fertility forest region is in the Amazon region. The tropical rain forest is Sao paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Bahia, Espirito Santo and Minas Gerais are highly fertile. This is where they gave been growing coffee, sugar cane, wheat and cotton for centuries.

I think the difference is that all this spike is happening with a weakened government after losing the last elections, a sick president that obviously is not in good shape.... not looking really good. But the worst part is that I do not see a strong alternative for 2015. I think we are for in for a roller coaster ride that is going to last quite some time. If you are relatively new in the country ( less than 10 years ) hold on tight, read some history that will help you be able to sleep at night. There is a reason why this is called a " developing " country

Cabinet Chief links 'illegal' blue dollar with criminal activity

Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich has reiterated the national government's stance on the parallel 'blue' dollar, calling the market "illegal" and pledging to investigate who was behind what he termed "speculative attacks."

The past week saw sharp rises in the value of the unofficial currency, which closed on Friday evening selling at 11.95 pesos - almost double the price of the regular dollar.

Capitanich addressed the issue during this morning's press briefing, asserting that it was irresponsible for media groups and opposition figures, who he claimed "want to force government decisions," to publish blue dollar prices.

"Those media groups who are trying to force through decisions wish to become the opposition," he fired, also remarking of the "contradiction for newspapers of a liberal slant" who highlight the blue rates.

Capitanich also suggested that the parallel currency could also be used as a form of "money laundering from drug trafficking", while maintaining that President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner "took the decision to govern for all 40 million Argentines.
