Why Still No Buenos Aires-Colonia Bridge?

Its not for the money. There were various projects, but none of them prospered. It would be a HUGE change, imagine the first bridge over the Rio de la Plata in its history. A change for everyone, and if I dont remember wrong the main reason why it didnt prosper the last one, in the 90s, was for environmental reasons. Same to aeroisla, the 1995 idea of moving aeroparque to an island in the river to sell the land where it is now to have more towers with beautiful views.

And of course, it is a HUGE work, with huge investment needed, with a huge business to control, with huge changes at all levels.

All in all, I think its ok as it is now.

Even a country with Argentina's unlimited resources has to make choices. Where's my choripan?

Two more thoughts:

What of all the sailboat traffic on the river ? Ever look out at the river on a nice day ? There are thousands of boats racing , cruising , etc.....

Where on the Buenos Aires side would the bridge arrive ? There is no land available for the infrastructure needed for toll booths , customs booths , access roads , etc.

Hell , there is a bridge up in Entre Rios. I have crossed it several times. Yeah it takes hours to drive to Colonia. But is doable.

The bridge would go from Punta Lara south of BA to the south of Colonia!

The channel tunnel connects the uk almost 60 million people to Europe and over 300 million people. It has a huge potential customer base, and yet it cost a fortune and is still not making money.
This bridge to nowhere would cost an arm and a leg and serve very few people.

It eventually caught on as a mode of transport and Eurotunnel announced its first net profits in 1999.

Not to mention its value as an additional freight and tourism route between the UK and the rest of Europe.

A road bridge to Uruguay would be silly.

Spending a lot of money for very few people does not concern the current government.

¡Vuelos Para Todos!

Thats a reasonable objective for a state run airline, the minimum expectation is that this aim is pursued efficiently however.

Not achievable without industry experience. The next govt should turn Aerolineas Arg into a budget airline. Charge for everything above the flight, offer cheap deals or more expensive based on the time of booking.

A south american state run Ryanair.
