Please, almagestos...! That's embarrassing.

The only oil in Afghanistan is in the carters of all those trucks paid for by American taxpayers, moving stuff across the country and transporting "happy soldiers" that have been blown-up by land mines.

War can be SUCH fun...!

3 years and I haven't been robbed once - I feel like I'm missing out:rolleyes: In all seriousness - I'm a little shocked about the 16 times (really?!) but I do know the vast majority of my friends and conocidos here have been robbed or mugged - it's not a problem unique to extranjeros.

I count myself as lucky and also take the precautions mentioned earlier and live in a doorman building on a high floor - no one is breaking into my apt. Also I don't talk in English on the phone on the street, don't carry a lot with me, don't walk alone at night and all the other normal precautions. So far, I've been lucky but do understand that it can happen to anyone.

Psst - almagestos - there are lots of things to criticize the gov't of the EEUU about but you might want to do a quick brush-up on history. Neither Vietnam nor Afghanistan had anything to do with oil ;) Now Iraq might be a different discussion...

Do you think the argentinians needs the opinion and critics of the foreigners about the problems of our own country?

No. That's why we post them on the BAexpats forum - a place for expats to talk about BA. And anyone who is interested in what we have to say is welcome here. You're clearly not interested in what we have to say....so why are you here?

And you've been extremely critical on this thread eg. about the American diet and obesity rate - do you think the americans needs the opinion and critics of the foreigners about the problems of their country? Hypocrisy of the highest order.

Why? If you want to have a debate about American history, start a thread and we'll discuss it. This thread is about the recent crime rate in BA/Argentina and has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with American history - nor does it have anything to do with the crime rate in NY or London - nor does it have anything to do with the crime rate in Argentina in the 70s - and nor does it have anything to do with the quality of pizza!

You should be a politician almagestos - your ability to wander off-subject and talk absolute shite, avoiding the point of the original debate completely, is world class.

Hey, if you're open to taking bribes and channeling public money into your private off-shore bank accounts as well, you're a shoe-in for a future presidential candidate!

If I wrote those opinions about you´re country is to show you how insulting is for an argentinian to read the same kind of comments about our country... I´m paying to you with the same coin.

If you can complain and critic my country I have the right to do the same about yours, the difference is that I´m not getting benefits from your country, and you´re are here with your business getting benefits from mine... so you must to be grateful about this nation and learn to apreciate the good things this land brings to you...

Some guys are complaining about kids asking for coins on the sidewalks, but the ones that should complain about that problem are those kids theirselfs... by the way those kids are in their homeland asking for coins, they´re not in your country, if you find annoying those attitudes, go back to your country where noone disturb your peace...

Yep. Iguazu is a pretty lawless place though. I can't prove it, but I'm pretty sure the last time my house got burgled it was done by the police! (Ask me to tell you the story one day over a drink and I'm sure you'll come to the same conclusion.) Iguazu suffers from being a tourist filled place with easily crossed borders with Brasil and Paraguay - it's a mecca for gangs intent on robbing tourists. And although I wasn't a tourist, my gringo face was my downfall. And included in the 16 are a few scams pulled by builders/tradesmen. I've 'only' actually been mugged (as in being robbed physically from my person) 4 times - twice in the street in Iguazu and twice on the subte in BA. The other police incident wasn't actually quite as dramatic as it sounds - again, a story to be told over a drink.

I was clearly wrong about my estimate of your age.....I'm now guessing at 8 years old.
And show me in my original post where I was insulting your country?

So tell me, oh knowledgeable one, what benefits am I getting from your country exactly? (here's a clue: absolutely zero.)
