Anyone Going To The World Cup?

Does anyone know where a lot of people will be gathering here in Buenos Aires to watch. I want to interview a few Americans for a news outlet back in the states.

That "massive civil war" had almost nothing to do with slavery.

For Lincoln it certainly did not. For many volunteers who fought and died at it, specially but not exclusively the African American regiments, it had EVERYTHING to do with slavery. At any rate, I am not disagreeing with you assessment that slavery in Brazil was much bigger tan the US. Just that we were fortunate enough to eventually have a king willing to pay the almost ultimate price, his crown, to get rid of it. In the US, abolition was just a flag of convenience for the likes of Lincoln.

Thanks for the birthday wishes! The silly men-child (man-children?), ie my husband and my best friend from university bought their tickets, they are confirmed, match 60, let's hope argentina doesn't have a surprisingly horrible cup and either not make that far, or lose the match!

Last time around we scoped out the cafes/bars in our neighborhood and watched with a bunch of our neighbors instead of going to an expat hangout spot. They put up a big screen just for the WC. Get there a little early, but it's way more fun than watching solo or with tourists.

The massive screen was in Plaza San Martin at the base of the hill (former river bank) on the sidewalk just west-ish of the memorial.

Hundreds to thousands gather for each match with the largest crowds obviously being for Argentina's matches.

This year Argentina's first two group matches are on weekend days, but the third match starts at 1pm on a Wednesday. If you ever wanted to put down a blanket and have a picnic in the middle of Av 9 de Julio, that will be your chance. (Except for the bus lanes.) the city will absolutely come to a halt. We're talking London during a WWII air raid.

In the park you will be able to see precious Madonna & Child scenes like this:

Absolutely anywhere, especially if Argentina's playing, which literally stops traffic. I like hunkering down in a bodegón de barrio with all the old men sipping on Vasco Viejo, heh. But for Americans, try the popular expat bars, like Sugar in Palermo. http://www.sugarbuenosaires.com

wee documentary by the bbc

I wonder why the Brazilian police didn't use a nicer logo.

The USA has chances to defeat some team in the group G ??? Taking bets what team will the USA team win?

Group G:
Germany – Third in 2010 and aims to build on positive vibe created by its dominant club teams.
Ghana – Knocked out the U.S. in 2010 before being heartbreakingly denied a semifinal spot.
United States – Regarded as the strongest team in its pot after topping CONCACAF group.
Portugal – Cristiano Ronaldo single-handedly won a tense playoff but has yet to shine at World Cup.

you might beat Ghana but its doubtful. You couldn't even beat Scotland last year!

Didn't you read what Rich said Ejcot? He said the US team is "in its pot". I'd be surprised to see them even leave their living room.
