Hello!

My boyfriend and I will be arriving in BA in early November. California natives, it will be our first time in Argentina. Any tips, restaurant recommendations, and advice are welcome. We've got an apartment in Palermo and that's about the extent of our plans for now.

I am a food, lifestyle, and travel photographer and will be taking assignments while I'm there...

I'm looking forward to hearing suggestions. Any ex-pat Thanksgiving celebrations?

Thanks,

Jayme

Hello! Best of luck for your travels. Possibly the most helpful tip that I can give you is that electronics here are very expensive due to high taxes on imported goods, so if you need any electronics (e.g. cameras, computers, phones etc.) stock up before you arrive.

Welcome!
I am not sure about where exactly in Palermo you will be staying. If you are staying near Palermo Soho, you will find tons of delis there. It is a nice place to go for a walk on sundays/saturdays
Some restaurants you can go to:
Asado: Las Cabras, La Dorita
Sushi; Dashi, Sushi Club (btw Sushi in BA is very expensive)
Pizza: Almacen de Pizzas
French food: La Petanque
Italian food: La Parolaccia

Let me know if you have any specific questions!

Thanks for the info! I will be sure to stock up on my gear/equipment before I leave and make sure to have my fill of sushi for awhile. I think there will be enough amazing grilled meat around that I won't miss the sushi too much. There's a ton of great info on these forums and I'm happy to be a part of the community. If no one throws a traditional American Thanksgiving, I just might have to organize one!

Welcome Jayme. If you bring pumpkin pie filling you will be vry popular. There is always a last minute "where do they have it " question. This year I am not sure if you will be able to find it here.

Every one has their own opinion- I wouldnt eat the sushi here if you paid me- cream cheese and canned tuna fish...

I suggest you check out Pick up the Fork- it really nails the food scene here.

Whats up is a good read, but, for some reason, they havent been updating it for months- but there is still an amazing amount of info there on artists, music, clubs, and food.

bubble is a great english language news site- most of the other english news is pretty spotty, but these guys are smart and funny and on the ball-

Robert isnt living in BsAs right now, but the archived information on his site about Buenos Aires, particularly the architecture, is really informative- I recommend reading back posts of his site, you learn about all kinds of interesting stuff-

There is a wealth of information here on this forum, more than we could possibly give. I'm trying to remember that myself before I ask questions--just because I'm more and more aware of it.

Good job, Ghost. Sorry it wasn't appreciated. She asked for suggestions and you gave a good one but rereading, I think she only was asking for suggestions for Thanksgiving celebrations, nothing more. But I thought the same thing you did.

That being said, it's surprising how many writer/reporters end up here in BA and even on this forum.

If you had used the search function as I suggested you would already know that "amazing grilled meat" has not been on the menu for about 2.5 years. Welcome.
They must sell it all in Mendoza then ... hard to believe you that can't get good meat in BsAs.
