Last time I was in an Irish bar outside of Ireland which made sense was in Krakow. At home a bar is part of the community, much more than a drinking spot. Certain local activities gravitate too or become the focal point of the bar. To me, you have to remove it from that context and make it a reflexion or reminiscence of Ireland. Normally people chuck a load of non associated or irrelevant chintz at the walls, bloody bicycles or whatever other identikit nonsense.
This pub in krakow had a sort of wraparound photo mural of irish cities around all the walls. Surrounded by familiar light, images and colours it sort of worked. Yet it was somehow still polish.
So, in short , if I could figure out how to marry off argentine and irish characteristics in an environment relative to its surroundings, i would go for it. You'd soon get people out advertising at home, beats teaching English.
Of course, i'd have to convince the good lady boss to sell both our apartments and sink the funds into a boozer.
All my thoughts and respects with the victims families in Glasgow, to the emergency services and the people of the city for pulling together in this face of this weekends distressing event. Very real for me as we have a wee branch of the family there.
