I read this thread via a friend's FB:
''I think most world leaders are hypocrites. I liked Obama's response to the death of Chavez. Those people who ''cherry-pick'' among Chavez’s views and policies are misguided. Being seen to support the ''little-man'' was purely lip-service in the end. Friends of mine were his supporters, but that all went wrong after the attempted coup. The changes Chavez made in Venezuela created a socialist dictatorship in all but name. He controlled public institutions, media, business and his military style police force and ''Red Shirts'' controlled local communities. When socialism did not pay enough the police and Red Shirts combined as racketeers controlling drugs, protection and prostitution, and punishing petty criminals and those who would not do their bidding with death, kidnapping their families and beatings if they were lucky. At the last election a friend told me (he lives in the suburbs of Caracas) the ''watchers'' whispered to poor folk voting, ''we will know who you are''. Only his sickness allowed the opposition to campaign with such vigour and success. The military fearing his demise and chaos demanded greater polarisation. What sort of democracy is that?''
I think that everyone should be respectful when someone dies. It is not hypocritical to consider this mans family, friends and supporters; they have lost someone dear to them.
