had it on for few hours in background....not one single on-the-street interview? Bizarre. why is that - is it illegal or something to go and ask a few pot bangers, "so, what brought you out tonight?", "do you have a message for the president?"

nada.

Maybe the people were reluctant to talk as it would open them up to be investigated by AFIP. CFK has been known to use AFIP to go after private citizens that critize her.

Why dont they ever do a walk to the Quinta Presidencial de Olivos. Where the noise can actually be herd instead of the pots and pans in every barrio. I see her frequently landing down in her chopper.
We were at the quinta last night with many hundreds of others. This was a very large event with real feeling.
Where was CFK?
In San Juan. Mopping her fevered brow no doubt.

The message for the president was as clear as a bell as shown by the multitude that turned out.
As mentioned by me and others, I was there amongst the crowd last night and banging along with the rest.
We circumnavigated the Quinta from Maipu to Libertador, it was impressive.
She may not have been at home, but she cannot fail to have got the message.
This is just the beginning and I don't doubt for one moment that she will harden her position.

Different how Angel? I wasn't here for De La Rua, so I can't compare. I'm really curious!!
The big protest for De la Rua wasn't planned. It happened spontaneously at the exact time the president announced a state of siege and that nobody could leave their house or gather in a group of more than 3 people (My memory is of seeing a girl in the massive crowd down Santa Fe, just wrapped in a towel with a towel wrapped around her hair) . The protesters were angry, absolutely desperate and after this message, completely defiant. The air was electric.
Last night, people were defiant but the situation wasn't as urgent, they weren't cohesive in what they wanted. But it's a good start.

I was there last night and it was great. I went with my grandparents and saw the people finally reacting to this woman.

What really is driving me crazy is the oficialista media calling us golpistas... Aren't these the people who are trying to alter the constitution?

Calling it a march of the rich when Cristina has a bank account of 3 million USD not to mention a 10k Rolex which is never absent from her wrist, not even going into Timmerman, Boudou, Garre, and these other scum. The people who went tonight weren't rich, just educated people who can think for themselves and get up and work every day.

I also saw a trend on twitter "Anda con Nestor" and claims from cyber-k's that people were chanting "anda con nestor la puta que te pario" NO ONE said that! At least where I was walking along Santa Fe from Callao to the 9 de julio

There is still a long way to go, but lets hope its a start. I for one will be following the election in venezuela next month very closely.

I would love it if the argentine people realised it is they who control the government, not the other way round.

CK: "you can't have dollars"
We, the people: erm, you're there because of us. You're our representative. Nada mas! It's us who tells you what you can and can't do with dollars, those that you send to your seychelles bank account, not you who tells us.
*sound of tarring and feathering preparations*

bizarre upside down world, this place.

What this protest needs is a face. It needs to be personified otherwise it's a bunch of people walking down the street. We need someone to step up and speak for the crowds, someone who can be interviewed and speak rationally and effectively about the issues. Tonight was a great opportunity. Where is the opposition in this country?

A large faceless crowd inspires more fear than a leader's voice IMO. A leader can be easily targeted (AFIP, dirt, you name it) or the words missintepreted/dissected in various opposing directions thus dividing / diluting support.
Right now the crowd will do. It will attract more faces. United we stand.

So great to see something, finally! Who knows if it will amount to anything, but people need to voice their displeasure.
