I have Hospital Italiano and never had a problem. My husband and I (both mid 30's) have had surgery there and I have had a baby there. All of my doctors were/are excellent, all of the nurses I had were awesome as well. The only issue is the wait. There are A LOT of patients at the hospital and sometimes, depending on the specialty, you have to wait a long time to get an appointment or a long time at the hospital its self if you have an appointment with a doctor there. If you are healthy and only need to see your doctor for a check up I would see if you could get a doctor that could see you at their satellite offices. The wait is much less and it is usually much more convenient. The other benefit of Italiano is that you have access to all of your medical exam results online, you can make appointments online and contact your doctors online as well.

That immense crowd at the Hospital Italiano gives me the creeps. So many patients waiting in line anywhere, it looks like a public hospital so depressing.

but to me these all seem like things i would have AFTER i got my DNI... was I wrong in thinking that i could sign up for OSDE without a DNI?

They are LYING TO YOU! Damn, some OSDE higher-up must have sent a memo to all their employees just telling them to lie through their teeth about needing to have a DNI to sign up. I'd recommend Medicus if OSDE keeps giving you trouble. Bastards.

I just signed up for OSDE with my passport last month. Nothing else, not even proof of address, just the passport. I didn't yet have residency, was still on a tourist visa and still no problems. It took maybe 10 minutes. I went to the one on Santa Fe and Billinghurst.

Maybe they thought you were trying to sign up through employment or something. Tell them your not working or that you work for an external company, and that your signing up independently.

At OSDE they would take me on a special plan, only, because I have a hearing condition (stable since 24 years). At Hospital Italiano they were cheaper, nicer and told me I just needed to bring my passport and that they often sign up temporary visitors such as exchange professors, etc. Also, at HI they didn't care that my bf was turning 36 this year, apparently 35 is a breaking point in every other insurance plan we inquired about
